Graphite and Mixed Media on Paper
2nd in a series of drawings that I’m doing. This is a lot closer to the reference material than the Harley Quinn drawing was, so playing with value was difficult. The more I add, the less realistic the image tends to get, unfortunately. So this was a difficult exercise in the study of values in terms of balance. However, I did a test of value based on focus. I noticed this idea, highlighting the eyes as the main focus, from two other artists, Bec Winnel and Dirk Dzimirsky. They do it much better than me but I think it’s a great approach to portrait/figure drawing.
